Woven throughout the Oldfields experience are the traditions, both longstanding and recent, that our students will fondly remember - especially Green and White Night, Spirit Games, Fall Family Weekend, Garden Party, and Graduation. Throughout this sesquicentennial year, these traditions have honored our special 150th anniversary. There is nothing more rewarding than watching the girls tiptoe around the traditions as “new girls” and then come to enthusiastically embrace them by the time they are seniors.
One of our more recent (the early 1990s) traditions is the Senior Speech, in which every senior is required to make an oral presentation to the entire School community during Morning Meeting. The speeches can be about almost anything, but often are stories of personal growth and life events that have shaped the girls. Some are funny, some will break your heart. All are worth our undivided attention, as we learn something new about each and every girl that steps up to the microphone. Senior speeches are undoubtedly one of the most wonderful, enlightening, uplifting, and as you will see, emotional, traditions at Oldfields School. The Class of 2017 demonstrates the mission of Oldfields better than any of our words ever could.
